How to make free ringtones using Audacity:

1. Download and install Audacity. You can download it here

2. Download the LAME MP3 encoder for Audacity.
To install LAME for Audacity:
run Audacity and select Edit-> Preferences
open the Libraries tab and click Find Library or Locate under the MP3 Export Setup area and open the folder where you saved the dll

3. Make a copy of the MP3 file you want to turn into a ringtone not to overwrite it while editing.

4. Import your audio file into Audacity.

5. Using the Selection tools find the 15-40 seconds of the file you want to be your ringtone.

6. Cut out the rest of the file - open the Edit menu and choose Trim. Optionally you can add different effects.

7. Your ringtone is ready to be exported - select File, then Export as MP3 and save it on your computer.

8. Now the last step - transfer your personal ringtone to your phone via cable transfer, Bluetooth or infrared.
